Located east of Tucson, Civano’s 1200 acres
incorporate a variety of land uses and
densities to create a town that is affordable and sustainable. The community mixes housing, employment and
amenities in a pedestrian- friendly environment that emphasizes environmental
planning principles. “Live-work units”
at the town center provide residents the opportunity to live above offices,
restaurants and shops. Nearly 1/3 of
the community will be preserved as public, open space and will contain linear
parks and pedestrian and bicycle paths.
Promoted as an environmentally friendly industrial area, the town’s goal
is to lure “ecologically oriented” businesses. The community has been a
collaborative effort between state and local governments and private
enterprises and incorporates innovative homebuilders and infrastructure. The efforts have evolved into a community
where homebuyers can utilize the best technology to reduce water and energy
consumption. Civano’s layout
incorporates civic and commercial needs within walking distance of the housing
units.
